Middle East crisis/ ForMin Toiu: 318 Romanians, pilgrims and tourists, repatriated

A total of 318 Romanians, pilgrims and tourists, arrived in Romania during the night from Monday to Tuesday at Otopeni Airport on two charter flights organised by travel agencies together with Tarom airline.

‘I am at Otopeni Airport, where the second assisted repatriation flight from the Middle East landed overnight. The two flights landed safely in Romania with 318 Romanian citizens, pilgrims and tourists on board, charter services organised by travel agencies together with Tarom airline,’ Foreign Affairs Minister Oana Toiu wrote on Facebook on Tuesday morning.

They reached Egypt from Israel through the Taba border crossing point and were assisted at the border crossing and at the airport by the consular team and the Romanian Embassy in Cairo, Oana Toiu said.

‘Together with Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Arab Republic of Egypt Badr Abdel-Aati, we have agreed to continue constant communication at bilateral level in order to assist tourist groups and to facilitate transit for special cases. At the same time, we continue to recommend caution to Romanian citizens in Middle Eastern states and to follow official channels,’ the minister said.
