Prime Minister Ilie Bolojan convened a meeting on Monday morning at the Victoria Palace regarding the situation of Romanian citizens stranded in areas bordering Iran due to the Middle East conflict.
According to the schedule announced by the Government Press Office, the meeting takes place at 09:30.
Deputy prime ministers and representatives of the Ministries of Foreign Affairs (MAE), Transport, Economy, Defence and Finance are participating in the meeting convened by Prime Minister Ilie Bolojan.
At the same time, Foreign Affairs Minister Oana Toiu announced that, for the entire duration of the MAE crisis cell’s activity, press conferences will be held to ensure accurate information reaches Romanian citizens in a timely manner.
She called on Romanian citizens who are in the conflict area on Sunday to provide their contact details to consular offices.
By Sunday evening, over 1,060 requests for assistance had been registered, excluding the United Arab Emirates.
A first group of 300 Romanian citizens is expected to be evacuated from Israel to Egypt, from where they will be taken over by a consular team dispatched by the Romanian Embassy in Cairo.
Foreign Affairs Ministry spokesperson Andrei Tarnea presented on Sunday evening data regarding the number of Romanian citizens in areas affected by the Middle East conflict.
„We are talking about Israel, around 624 Romanian citizens, of whom roughly 30 or so are minors. In Qatar there are 159 Romanian citizens, including 19 minors. In Saudi Arabia there are 25 Romanian citizens, including several families with children, I believe three children. In Ramallah there are 46 Romanian citizens under attention, with no information regarding minors. In Kuwait there are six adults and two children. In Iran there are nine people. In Oman there are around 90 Romanian tourists. In Jordan there are 99 Romanian citizens. In the United Arab Emirates, the situation is a bit more complicated. We will provide updated figures as they are clarified. We are talking about a few hundred people, so it is a significant number. In Syria there have been no repatriation requests. In Lebanon there were some requests for information, but so far no repatriation requests. In Iraq there is one Romanian citizen whose flight was cancelled. These are the figures at this moment,” Andrei Tarnea Andrei mentioned on Sunday evening.
