One of the constants of my European parliamentary activity was and is supporting the Romanian energy industry.
„In the midst of an energy war, some want Europe to shoot itself in the foot. That’s what it means, in my opinion, to challenge the European Commission’s proposal to include the natural gas and nuclear energy sectors in the EU taxonomy,” I warned, as a substitute member of the Commission for Industry, Research and Energy.
„I encourage the European Commission to maintain the inclusion in the taxonomy, at least as transitional activities, of the natural gas and nuclear energy sectors”, I requested in a January 2022 interpellation.
We have repeatedly asked the European Commission to stimulate investments in the natural gas sector in the EU.
Also, in the context of the energy price crisis in the fall of 2022, after repeated warnings that there will be an inflationary shock that will be painfully felt by EU citizens, I asked for the gas price cap, having to state that „through procrastination, the European Commission is between those directly responsible for the burden of the energy bill that EU citizens have to bear this winter. From my point of view, it is a missed autumn, institutionally and legislatively, for the European Commission”.
Regarding the debate on the availability of fertilizers in the EU, in February 2023 we announced that „last year, Azomureș, the largest producer of fertilizers in Romania, only operated for two months, due to high energy prices. It is one of the symptomatic cases of the global fertilizer crisis, with an impact on food security, in the conditions of the 2022 drought in Europe and other areas of the world. And production costs are now reflected in the price of fertilizers. Under these conditions, I support the request addressed to the Member States and the European Commission regarding the use of the agricultural reserve for the financial year 2023 in order to provide immediate assistance to farmers.
In particular, farmers from Romania and from the other member countries in the vicinity of Ukraine must be urgently supported to face the harmful impact for them that the massive imports of agricultural products from Ukraine have had.”
