Prime Minister-designate Eugen Tomac will begin discussions with parliamentary parties on Monday to secure support for his technocratic Cabinet.
“No fewer than 24 Romanian universities are members of European university alliances, actively participating in academic projects that impact cohesion and competitiveness within the EU. These university alliances will continue to benefit from European support through the Erasmus+ program in the upcoming multiannual financial framework, 2028–2034. This is a welcome decision by the EU Council, taken two weeks ago.
However, beyond this area of academic cooperation and mobility, there is a major socio-economic component: the impact on research, innovation, and competitiveness. This is why, at a time when we are seeking ways to boost European enterprises in this regard, there is a need for solid, predictable long-term support for inter-university projects that have an impact on the economy. This is a legitimate request from the National Council of Rectors in Romania, which I support.
Consequently, I have asked the European Commission to include funding for European university alliance projects in the future European Competitiveness Fund and in the Horizon Europe research program,” stated Mihai Tudose, Vice-Chair of the European Parliament’s Committee on Security and Defense.
