Mircea Abrudean, one year into his mandate as Senate President: I choose to fight for Romania

Published on

The President of the Senate, Mircea Abrudean, on Tuesday presented a review of the past year since taking office, highlighting that „transparency” and „respect for citizens” are essential.

„In politics it is vital to speak to people, to show and explain what you are doing. Transparency and respect for citizens are essential. At a time when people have lost trust in politicians, I choose to fight for Romania and to ensure that people are better off, even if this is not always immediately visible. In December 2024, I received your trust and vote to represent you as a senator elected for Cluj in the Parliament of Romania. I was then elected President of the Senate and here I am now, one year into the mandate, with visible results achieved through hard work,” Abrudean wrote on Facebook.

According to his activity report, he initiated 18 draft laws, oversaw the adoption of 300 acts in plenary sittings he chaired, served on two committees – Energy and OECD – held more than 50 diplomatic-level meetings and maintained „constant” activity at his parliamentary office in Cluj County, which he describes as his „home, family and soul”.

Abrudean stated that „a mandate is not a privilege but a responsibility”, adding that as President of the Senate he works for „clear decisions”, „legislative pace” and „institutional stability”.

„Romania needs rigour, balance and courage. The law must keep pace with reality, and stability is built through institutional cooperation,” Mircea Abrudean underlined in his activity report.

In his view, „the President of the Senate means a fair arbiter and an effective working rhythm, (…) because institutions function when there is firmness and mutual respect”.

As for diplomacy, Abrudean stressed that „Romania must be present, credible and connected”.

„We have strengthened parliamentary relations and external partnerships and supported Romania’s path towards the OECD. Foreign policy begins with seriousness at home and is confirmed through institutional dialogue,” he added.

The President of the Senate said he had supported legislation on energy investment, cyber security, reducing bureaucracy and digitalisation, as Romania needs infrastructure, technology and clear rules for the business environment, with modernisation not being optional.

Mircea Abrudean said he wants young people to be prepared for a ‘secure’ future.

„Investing in young people is the safest investment in Romania’s future. I have supported initiatives for the protection of minors online, access to education and programmes that prepare the new generations for a modern economy,” he explained.

According to the Senate President, „politics is also about roots: family, school, church and community”.

„I support cultural and social initiatives that strengthen solidarity and trust between people. Institutions are stronger when they remain anchored in community values. (…) We move forward, we continue together,” Abrudean added. AGERPRES
