The starter motor of the missile piece found on Sunday on the Black Sea beach, in the sector between Periboina and Sacele, was made in the Russian Federation and, most likely, after it fell into the sea, was brought by the currents to the area of the Romanian coast, reads a press release issued by the General Staff of the Romanian Naval Forces (SMFNR), according to Agerpres.
The starter motor of the identified missile body was taken over on Monday by the representatives of the SMFNR from the Dobrogea Inspectorate for Emergency Situations and was safely stored for investigations.
„SMFN states that the discovered element does not contain pyrotechnic or hazardous materials and that it represents a tube of a starter motor from a 57E6 type surface-to-air anti-aircraft missile, launched by a Pantir S-1 anti-aircraft missile system (classification NATO SA-22 Greyhound), produced in the Russian Federation, which, most likely, during the recent military actions in the northern area of the Black Sea, fell into the sea and was brought by the sea currents to the area of the Romanian coast,” says the release.
Also, SMFN shows that this type of ammunition element is not used by the Romanian Naval Forces and is specific to the forces involved in the Russian-Ukrainian conflict.
„Considering the characteristics of this type of missile and the frequency of its use in combat actions, it is possible that, in the next period, sea currents will bring such component elements close to the coastal area of Romania or other riparian countries, without this representing a danger. However, we recommend that citizens who observe such items of ammunition that, for their own safety, not approach the discovered objects and urgently notify the competent authorities”, the press release also informs.
