The Republic of Moldova will be represented at the meeting of Foreign Affairs Ministers of the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO), which will take place in Bucharest on November 29 and 30, the diplomacy in Chisinau informs, according to Agerpres.

„I have accepted the Alliance’s invitation to participate in the meeting of foreign affairs ministers, which will be hosted in Bucharest,” said the Minister of Foreign Affairs and European Integration of the Republic of Moldova, Deputy Prime Minister Nicu Popescu, as quoted in a press release published on Wednesday evening on the website of the ministry he leads.

The announcement was made following a telephone conversation that Nicu Popescu had with the Deputy Secretary General of NATO, Mircea Geoană. The officials referred to the security situation in the region, as a result of the Russian military aggression in Ukraine, and its consequences for the Republic of Moldova, especially in the energy sector.

„I pointed out that, in the current very fragile security context, our country wants to strengthen and modernize its defence capabilities,” said Minister Nicu Popescu.

The meeting of NATO Foreign Affairs Ministers, the first of its kind organized in Romania, will include four sessions related to the implementation of the decisions taken at the NATO Summit in Madrid, the war in Ukraine, energy security and partners. Ukraine, Georgia, Finland, Sweden and Bosnia were also invited to the meeting.
