The Government of the Republic of Moldova has approved the allocation of more than 1.8 million lei to compensate for the value of property confiscated during political repression. A project to this effect was approved at Wednesday’s Cabinet meeting.
The funds will be distributed on the basis of decisions by special commissions and requests from local public authorities, to pay compensation to six people. The money will be allocated to the municipal councils of Bălți and Chișinău, as well as the district councils of Călărași, Dondușeni, Dubăsari and Râșcani.
Under the law, people subjected to political repression and later rehabilitated, as well as their heirs, are entitled to the return of confiscated property, and in cases where the property can no longer be returned, the state provides financial compensation.
The state budget for 2026 includes resources amounting to 4.9 million lei for the payment of compensation to victims of political repression.
