A total of 1,136,612 people were collecting a welfare allowance for pensioners in April 2024, by 1,344 fewer compared to the previous month, shows data centralized by the National Public Pensions Office (CNPP).
Of these, 1,039,018 were public pension system retirees and 97,594 were retirees from the former farmers’ pension system.
In the category of public system retirees, the average allowance received from the state budget was RON 495. The highest values were recorded in the counties of Maramures (RON 576), Bistrita-Nasaud (RON 568), Cluj (RON 549), and Hunedoara (RON 548).
The most beneficiaries of this allowance were in Bucharest – specifically 48,505 – and in the counties of Suceava (42,604), Dolj (37,719), Iasi (37,609), Prahova (35,575), and Bacau (33,804).
As far as agriculture retirees are concerned, the average welfare allowance received from the state was RON 343, the highest values being recorded in the counties of Ilfov (RON 490), Gorj (RON 443), Hunedoara (RON 421) and in Bucharest sectors 5 and 6 (RON 414).
According to the cited source, the counties with the highest number of agricultural retirees were Iasi, Botosani, Dolj, Olt and Teleorman.
The CNPP states that the beneficiaries of the public pension system whose cumulative income from pensions and allowances is below the amount of RON 1,281 collect a monthly amount called „Welfare allowance for pensioners”, according to the provisions of Law No. 196/2009 with subsequent amendments and additions.
