More than 138,000 persons applied for labour permit with immigration police in 2022

The immigration police recorded more than 138,000 applications for the issuance of labour permits in 2022, according to a press release of the General Inspectorate for Immigration (IGI, sent to Agerpres.

An important segment of the activity carried out by the IGI in 2022 was the registration and settlement of applications for the issuance of labour permits for foreigners who were to be admitted to the labour market or who had already been admitted to be employed at commercial companies based in Romania.

In this field, during the reference period, 138,350 applications for the issuance of the labour permit were recorded, 132.2pct more than in 2021.

Of the total number of recorded applications, to which were added the applications from the end of 2021 still pending, a total of 108,930 employment permits were issued, 118.1pct more than in 2021, specifies the same source.

Regarding the stay of foreigners on the territory of Romania, at the end of the year, in the records of the General Inspectorate for Immigration, there were 171,812 citizens with a valid right of residence. Of these, 66.4pct came from third countries, while 31.9pct were from EU and EEA member states.

To regulate their right of residence, in 2022, 80,662 applications were recorded for granting or extending the right of residence for third-party citizens (44.5pct more than in 2021) and 15,465 applications for EU and EEA citizens (6.5pct more than in 2021).
