More than half a country under heatwave and thermal discomfort alerts August 9-August 10

The National Meteorological Administration (ANM) on Friday issued Code Yellow and Code Orange heatwave warnings, for this weekend, for more than half of the country.

Thus, a Code Yellow heatwave and high thermal discomfort was issued for Banat, Crisana, Oltenia, Muntenia and southwest Dobrogea, for August 9, 12:00 pm – August 10, 10:00 am.

In these regions, on Saturday, maximum temperatures will be between 35 and 37 degrees, with the highest values in southern Oltenia and Banat, where 38 degrees will be recorded, in some places. The temperature-humidity index (ITU) will reach or slightly exceed the critical threshold of 80 units. The night will be locally tropical with lows generally of 18-22 degrees.

A Code Orange for heatwave has been issued for Sunday, targeting the counties of Bihor, Arad, Timis, Caras-Severin, Mehedinti and Dolj, where thermal discomfort will be accentuated, and the temperature-humidity index (ITU) will exceed the critical threshold of 80 units. Maximum temperatures will reach 38-39 degrees, and minimums will be between 19 and 23 degrees, characterizing a tropical night.

Also, the Code Yellow extends on Sunday and includes Maramures, western Transylvania, northern and eastern Oltenia, Muntenia, southern Moldova and the continental part of Dobrogea. Meteorologists warn of particularly high temperatures, between 33 and 37 degrees. The temperature-humidity index (ITU) will reach or exceed the critical threshold of 80 units. Minimum temperatures will be between 17 and 21 degrees, locally characterizing a tropical night.

On Monday, August 11, the heatwave and thermal discomfort will persist in the southwestern and southern parts of the country.
