Business in the motor vehicle trade increased in Romania by 3.5%, as a gross series, in the first six months of this year, compared to the similar period in 2024, according to data published on Thursday by the National Institute of Statistics (INS).
According to the cited source, during the period January 1 – June 30, 2025, increasing volumes were recorded in: motor vehicle maintenance and repair activities (+20%), trade in motorcycles, related parts and accessories; maintenance and repair of motorcycles (+18.5%), trade in parts and accessories for motor vehicles (+1.9%) and trade in motor vehicles (+1.5%).
Also, in the same reference interval, as an adjusted series, depending on the number of working days and seasonality, the turnover in wholesale and retail trade, maintenance and repair of motor vehicles and motorcycles increased by 2.7%.
INS data reveal that, in June 2025 vs June 2024, the total volume of turnover in motor vehicle trade increased by 12.3%, as a gross series, due to the results from: trade in motorcycles, related parts and accessories; maintenance and repair of motorcycles (+31.8%), motor vehicle maintenance and repair activities (+31.3%), trade in motor vehicles (+10.5%) and trade in parts and accessories for motor vehicles (+9.8%).
As a supported series, the volume of business in the same field was also on an upward trend, with a jump of 9.9%.
According to official statistics, at a comparative level from June to May 2025, the total turnover in the trade in motor vehicles registered an increase of 11.9%, as a gross series, as a result of activities in the trade in motor vehicles (+17.3%), trade in parts and accessories for motor vehicles (+5.1%) and maintenance and repair activities of motor vehicles (+1.2%). In contrast, trade in motorcycles, related parts and accessories; maintenance and repair of motorcycles decreased by 0.3%.
An increase in business in this segment was also recorded as an adjusted series, depending on the number of working days and seasonality, respectively by 4.6%, in June, this year, compared to the previous month.
