MP Vexler on the tragedy of October 7: I am proud of the position adopted by Romania

Published on

The President of the Federation of Jewish Communities in Romania (FCER), Silviu Vexler, said on Tuesday that he is very proud of the position that the Romanian state adopted in the face of the tragedy of October 7, 2023, although he added that there are „entities” in the Romanian public space and even in the Parliament that disputes it.

Deputy Silviu Vexler spoke at a commemoration event dedicated to the victims of the terrorist attack of October 7, 2023, organized by the Reut Foundation, under the auspices of the Romanian Government, in collaboration with the Chamber of Deputies and the Embassy of the State of Israel in Bucharest.

Ovidiu Vexler said that „perhaps the saddest thing that resulted after these attacks was often the international reaction to what happened, the refusal to admit the reality that was unfolding every moment, again and again in front of the whole the world, the refusal to accept that this attack was actually directed against the world as a whole and not just the State of Israel or the Jews, even if they were the first targets”.

According to him, the drama that happened in Israel has not stopped, just like the drama of the victims who survived, the drama of the families of the hostages has not stopped and no matter how many commemorations and no matter how many speeches there are, it will not stop. He recalled the marches on October 7, 2024 in several European capitals directed against the State of Israel and the hostages, not marches for the release of the hostages, marches against the State of Israel, but also about the Romanian public space where „various entities” insisted that everything is a fake, that everything is a story created either by the Government of the State of Israel or by the Israeli Prime Minister.

The president of FCER believes that the best lesson for the whole world is neither the speeches of politicians, nor the images, but everyone should have the chance to listen and be able to talk to the family of one of the hostages or the victims of the attacks, a context in which he thanked the Bucharest authorities for their friendship.

„May God grant that we will see the return of all the hostages as soon as possible, and perhaps a wish that I keep repeating – that the next meeting should not be a commemoration, but a celebration of life,” Silviu Vexler said.
