USR deputy Claudiu Nasui announced on Tuesday that he had submitted to Parliament a bill to abolish the special pensions of mayors.

„‘If the Government has increased taxes and generated increases in the price chain, then it should also cut from politicians. Of course, but for now it has not cut anything from them. Last month, the state gave 1.5 billion lei on special pensions. Of this amount, the special pensions of magistrates represent only 8%. Yes, all the fight in the Government/coalition and at the CCR was for only 8% of the problem. Not even the Boc Government managed to cut these, which so far is the only Government that has actually cut special pensions. The rest of the special pensions, however, can be cut. But the Government is not touching them,” Nasui wrote on Facebook.

According to him, the special pensions for mayors have not come into force until now because each Government has kept postponing their application.

„But why are they doing this and not directly repealing the law? Because they want to appear to disagree with special pensions, but they also want them. So they want them to come into force with the CCR. The reason will be that you cannot postpone the application of a law indefinitely. A correct thing. And something that the CCR has already said. After which the Government will shrug its shoulders and say: ‘We have nothing to do. The CCR obliges us to give special pensions to mayors as well. We didn’t want to, but they oblige us’. I propose that we not get there. That is why we have submitted a project to abolish the special pensions of mayors for now. Precisely to eliminate the risk that they will come into force through the CCR. I will keep you informed whether the Bologna Government supports it or not.
