National Audiovisual Council call on elimination of aggression against journalists

Published on

The National Audiovisual Council (CNA) is urging all actors in the public communication space to refrain from any form of aggression, particularly verbal aggression against journalists.

„In the context of the social tension generated by electoral processes, we are noticing an alarming increase in verbal aggression aimed at journalists, sometimes even endorsed by individuals working in the media. Convinced that freedom of expression must be protected from those forms of expression used to intimidate, threaten, or discourage voices that express opposing views, CNA members are calling on politicians, officials, and journalists to contribute to eliminating any form of aggression from public discourse and to avoid expressions that harm the dignity, honour, and private life of journalists,” reads a CNA press release sent to AGERPRES on Friday.

The Council also asks broadcasters to carefully consider the messages they take from digital communication platforms to avoid legitimising unacceptable forms of expression.

„CNA invites professional associations and journalists’ unions, as well as organisations whose primary goal is to protect freedom of expression, to encourage their members to combat aggression in communication. CNA encourages all those who wish to protect the political debate space to report incitement to hatred and aggression to cna@cna.ro, as well as, where applicable, to the platforms that host such content,” the release from the National Audiovisual Council further reads.
