In a meeting on Friday, the board of the National Bank of Romania (BNR) decided to keep its monetary policy rate at 6.50% per annum.

It also decided to leave unchanged the lending (Lombard) facility rate at 7.50% per annum and the deposit facility rate at 5.50% per annum, and maintain the existing levels of minimum reserve requirement ratios on both leu- and foreign currency-denominated liabilities of credit institutions.

So far this year, BNR twice cut its monetary policy rate: first in June, from 7% per annum to 6.75% per annum and in August to 6.5% per year. The rate had been unchanged since January 2023.
