The National Bank of Romania (BNR) will launch on Wednesday a silver coin dedicated to 100 years since Romania won its first Olympic medal.
According to an announcement by the central bank published in the Official Journal, the silver coin has a face value of 10 lei.
The obverse of the coin shows an image of the diploma received by the players of the 1924 rugby team after winning the first Romanian medal at the 1924 Olympic Games in Paris, the inscription „ROMANIA” in a circular arc, the face value „10 LEI”, the Romanian coat of arms and the year of issue „2024”.
The reverse of the coin shows a composition containing a rugby ball, the 1924 Romanian rugby team and the inscriptions „ROMANIA’S FIRST OLYMPIC MEDAL – 1924” and „100 YEARS”.
According to the quoted source, the silver coins are packaged in transparent methacrylate capsules and are accompanied by presentation brochures and certificates of authenticity, written in Romanian, English and French. The certificates of authenticity bear the signatures of the Governor of the National Bank of Romania and the Central Cashier.
„The silver coins dedicated to 100 years since Romania won its first Olympic medal have circulatory power in Romania. The launch of these coins in the numismatic circuit is carried out through the regional branches of the National Bank of Romania in Bucharest, Cluj, Constanta, Dolj, Iasi, Timis,” the announcement reads.
