The national health care system as a whole recorded current expenditures of 80.56 billion lei in 2022, up 4.7% compared to the previous year, according to data from the National Institute of Statistics (NIS), published on Friday.
According to the statistics, 77.8% of the sources of financing in the health sector, or 62.66 billion lei, were public funds.
Thus, in 2022, current expenditure for health amounted to 80.56 billion lei, an increase of 4.7% compared to 2021.
In terms of financing sources for the health sector, the most important source is social security funds.
In 2022, through social insurance, medical services were financed with 49.19 billion lei (61.1% of current health expenditure), an increase of 6.4% compared to 2021.
According to the statistics, the direct payments of the population for medical services and goods accounted for 21.4% of the current expenditure on health (17.25 billion lei), the direct contribution of the central and local public administration accounted for 16.7% of the total current expenditure on health (13.46 billion lei), while the contribution of private insurance companies (in the form of gross indemnities paid to insured persons), non-profit institutions and economic units providing medical services to employees accounted for 0.8% (638 million lei) of the total current expenditure.
INS data also show that 2.55 billion lei were allocated for the management and administration of the health system and health financing, representing 3.2% of total current expenditure.
