National result is failure for REPER, for modernization movement of Romania, MEP Ciolos says

The national result in Sunday’s elections is a failure for the REPER party, but also for the entire modernization movement of Romania, says MEP Dacian Ciolos, who adds that he hopes for an alternative to the PSD-PNL and to extremism.

„First of all, I want to thank all of you who voted for the REPER team, at local and European parliamentary elections. Each vote and message received in these weeks means a lot to me, because it was one for seriousness after a campaign made without populism. Thank you to all REPER team, to the members from all over the country, to the volunteers who took their time and made great efforts to help us, and to the donors. It was a difficult campaign. We didn’t have and don’t have the money of the big parties, we didn’t have their networks and we didn’t resort to illegal methods, as we’ve seen in many cases,” Ciolos wrote on Facebook.

According to him, the more than 300,000 votes received at the European Parliament are not few under normal conditions, but the merger increased the presence and, without yet having final official figures, the reality shows that REPER has not passed the electoral threshold.

„The national score is a failure for us, but also for the entire modernization movement of Romania and it is a message and a cold shower that I receive with all responsibility. There are many decisions from the past that brought us here, pride, bad signals Therefore, I think that after we have the final results, we must judge and act on the basis of the lessons learned and the message sent by the voters, and those who have the energy and validation of the people, should quickly try to rebuild the centrist-liberal opposition, without egos and the ghosts of the past”, added the MEP.

He is still optimistic about the creation of an alternative to PSD-PNL and extremism.

„I am optimistic that a reconstruction has a solid basis. Nicusor Dan won Bucharest, Dominic Fritz was reconfirmed in Timisoara. In many cities, the cumulative score of REPER, USR and the two independents exceeds 25-30%. It is a solid base. An alternative to PSD-PNL and extremism can be built from here, and I think there is still time for a good result in the parliamentary and presidential elections, if this reconstruction starts quickly. I will take some time to think about it failure to achieve an ambitious goal. But I wish that all those who worked and those who mobilized in this campaign do not lose hope. They have convinced many people in a very short time and must continue to believe in the ideals, the values and principles they support,” Dacian Ciolos said. AGERPRES
