NATO Deputy Secretary General Mircea Geoana participated in a panel discussion marking the kick-off of the Munich Security Conference, in Berlin, Germany. The discussion focused on Russia’s brutal and unprovoked invasion of Ukraine, and the implications for authoritarian regimes attempting to subvert and reshape elements of the international order, according to a press release issued by NATO.
Mr. Geoană underlined the bravery of the Ukrainian people, as „they fight for their lives, for their freedom, for their land”. He added that the war in Ukraine also has implications for how the world will be shaped after the war. „It is about the order in Europe, of course, but it is also about the order in world affairs, around the world.”
Mr. Geoană’s co-panelists were Olha Stefanishyna, Ukraine’s Deputy Prime Minister for European and Euro-Atlantic Integration; Tobias Lindner, Germany’s Minister of State at the Federal Foreign Office; Nathalie Tocci, director of the Istituo Affari Internazionali in Rome; and Christoph Heusgen, ambassador and Chairman of the Munich Security Conference.
