NATO-funded project to train employees of Ministry of Interior from Ukraine as paramedics will start in March

The head of the Department for Emergency Situations (DSU) Raed Arafat, declared that at the beginning of March, the training of some employees from the Ministry of the Interior of Ukraine as paramedics, personnel to respond in medical emergencies, will begin in two centers in Romania, in Targu Mures and Oradea, as part of a NATO-funded project, according to Agerpres.

He responded in this way after he was asked, on Wednesday, in a press conference at the Victoria Palace, for details on the information that approximately 200 employees from the Ministry of the Interior of Ukraine will come to Romania for training.

„There are preparations of the services for emergency situations of our counterparts, in which we train people as paramedics, as personnel to respond to medical emergencies and some of them will be trained as paramedic instructors, to train other people,” Raed Arafat declared.

„Mainly, the money comes from NATO. So, there are several countries that finance the project. (…) We pay and then we are reimbursed. It’s like with European funds. The General Inspectorate for Emergency Situations (IGSU) pays the amounts, after which the amounts are paid from NATO. Now it is clear that Romania also contributes to NATO and if Romania contributes to the respective project, the part of its contribution will appear in the respective expenses,” explained Arafat.
