Nazare: BID is considering a €100 million contribution to the RoBOOST fund

Romania’s Development and Investment Bank (BID) is considering a contribution of €100 million to RoBOOST, the new fund of funds intended to finance startups, SMEs and Romanian companies at various stages of growth, interim Finance Minister Alexandru Nazare announced on Friday.

He is attending the informal ECOFIN meeting in Dublin, alongside the finance ministers and central bank governors of the European Union.

“In the very first hours of the meeting, I had the opportunity to meet again with Nadia Calviño, President of the European Investment Bank, with whom I discussed RoBOOST, the new fund of funds dedicated to Romanian companies. RoBOOST is a mechanism through which public capital can help attract and mobilise private and institutional capital, through private equity and venture capital funds, to finance startups, SMEs and Romanian companies at various stages of growth. BID – Romania’s Development and Investment Bank – is considering a contribution of €100 million to this mechanism,” Alexandru Nazare wrote on his Facebook page.

The meeting’s agenda includes topics related to financial innovation, capital mobilisation and the impact of artificial intelligence on the economy.

“It is very important for us to participate actively in all these discussions, to defend the country’s interests and to build alliances before European directions have already been established. Being present at the negotiating table means that we can put Romania’s priorities on the agenda and contribute to the decisions that will shape the European economy. In the period ahead, we need a Romania that is increasingly present and better connected to these debates – not only to follow European decisions, but to contribute actively to shaping them,” the interim Finance Minister said.

According to a statement from the Ministry of Finance (MF) sent to AGERPRES, Alexandru Nazare is attending, on 18–19 September 2026, the informal meeting of EU Economic and Financial Affairs Ministers (ECOFIN) and central bank governors being held in Dublin by the Irish Presidency of the Council of the European Union, according to an MF press release.

The discussions will address economic and financial issues in the context of technological transformations and developments in the financial markets.

On 19 September 2026, EU finance ministers will exchange views on the impact of artificial intelligence on the European economy and societies, based on a presentation delivered by International Monetary Fund Managing Director Kristalina Georgieva. This session will include several thematic discussions held in working groups, followed by a broader dialogue with all participants.

On the sidelines of the informal ECOFIN meeting, the interim Finance Minister will hold a bilateral meeting with his French counterpart, Roland Lescure, to discuss issues of common interest on the European agenda and the economic situation in the two countries. France is actively supporting at European level the acceleration of the Savings and Investments Union, the deepening of capital markets and the mobilisation of private capital to finance companies and investment – important issues for Romania as well.

The discussions will address how the two countries can cooperate more closely on the EU’s competitiveness agenda, as well as on strengthening public finances, in a context in which both Romania and France are seeking to reduce imbalances without affecting investment and the prospects for economic growth.
