Negotiating techniques, not exhausted, all parties should return to talks, says Senate president

Published on

Senate President Nicolae Ciuca on Thursday urged the pro-European parliamentary parties to return to negotiations in order to find „a majority political construction”.

„It is very complicated to talk about a minority government. The important thing is to bring all four parties back to the negotiating table and find the formula for a parliamentary majority. Also, to have the formula for a Government that can function, because there are many things to be done. All parties need to come back and negotiate. I don’t think the negotiating techniques have been exhausted. Negotiation means analysing all options as realistically as possible, putting aside ego and political interest and seeing the interests of the country,” Ciuca said.

He added that he has not discussed the possibility of the National Liberal Party (PNL) taking over the government with the PNL interim chairperson (PNL), Ilie Bolojan.

According to Ciuca, the political leaders who announced after the elections that „they have understood the will of the people and the lesson that the people have given to the political spectrum” must find „a majority political construction in Parliament”.

„The leader is the one who has vision, but, beyond vision, it is this assumption of responsibility, courage and patience. Let us have the patience to sit around the table to discuss, to come up with arguments, with solutions, to get to work. Marcel Ciolacu is the leader of the Social Democratic Party (PSD), the party that got the best score in the parliamentary elections, so it is the first option,” went on to say Nicolae Ciuca.
