Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu could be prepared, in certain circumstances, to launch a military strike against Iran without US support, the i24News television channel reported on Tuesday, dpa said on Wednesday.

The broadcaster cited a cabinet meeting held on Monday evening, during which Netanyahu said: „We may reach a situation in which we have to confront the Iranians alone, without US support, with all the costs involved – weapons and global isolation.”

Israel did not want it to come to that, but knew it could, Netanyahu said.

US President Donald Trump had previously warned the Israeli prime minister not to act alone. The US government is currently holding talks on a framework agreement with Tehran to resolve the regional conflict through diplomacy.

Israeli expert on Iran Danny Citronowicz warned on X that a major military move without US support would represent an enormous strategic gamble for Israel’s national security and should therefore be considered only if there are no alternatives.

Citronowicz also highlighted the consequences of an agreement with Iran that the US administration would regard as a success. In that case, unilateral Israeli action against Iran, without coordination with Washington, could carry a heavy price, including for Israel’s strategic relationship with the US.
