New car registrations up by 52 pct in August, electric vehicles climb 93.1 pct (preliminary data)

Registrations of electric cars in Romania rose by 93.1% in August compared to the same period in 2024, according to preliminary data released Tuesday by the Association of Automobile Manufacturers and Importers (APIA).

According to the statistics, which are based on information compiled by the Directorate for Driving Licenses and Vehicle Registration (DGPCI), new car registrations followed an upward trend during the period analyzed (+52.6% compared to August 2024), reaching a total of 15,043 units.

Within this segment, fully electric vehicles recorded a year-on-year increase of 93.1%, achieving a market share of 6.3%.

For the first eight months of this year, new car registrations totaled 95,658 units, down 8.9% compared to the same period last year.
