The Social Democratic Party (PSD) candidate for Bucharest mayor, Gabriela Firea, said on Thursday that the solution to improve traffic fluidity in Bucharest is to build new metro lines, which she intends to build with the support of the Government, sector mayors, MPs and MEPs.
„Alongside single bus lanes, intelligent traffic lights or school buses, we can reduce the precious time that we all waste every day. With the support of the Romanian Government and the mayors of Bucharest, MPs and MEPs we will build new metro lines. We had a constructive discussion with the employees working for the Bucharest metro, members of ‘Unitatea’ – Metro Free Trade Union (USLM). I thank union leader Marian Artimon for the opportunity to present my vision for the future of the metro, but also to listen to their needs,” Firea wrote on Facebook.
She added that there are great plans for the metro and she is convinced that through the collaboration between the Bucharest City Hall and the Government, with European funds attracted with the help of MEPs, extra stations will be built for the existing routes and new lines.
According to Gabriela Firea, the metro development and extension projects are aimed at the following main lines: M4 Gara de Nord – Gara Progresul (PMB + Sector 4 City Hall), M2 up to Voluntari yown and Berceni commune (PMB + Sector 4 City Hall + CJ Ilfov + Ilfov localities), M7 Bragadiru – Unirii Square- Afumati (PMB + CJ Ilfov – sector city halls – Metrorex association).
„There are solutions! We just need to apply the Sustainable Urban Mobility Plan 2016 – 2030, developed together with EBRD specialists, approved in 2017, during my mandate as Mayor General. Large infrastructure projects can be developed in Bucharest using European money. I will campaign for attracting non-reimbursable funds, together with our colleagues in the European Parliament. The relationship between Bucharest, Romania and the European Union is essential and we have an enormous profit so far, over 1 billion euros in Bucharest and almost 70 billion euros nationally,” said Firea.
