New registrations of road vehicles for passenger transport increased 12.7% in the fourth quarter of 2025 compared with the fourth quarter of 2024, while new registrations for goods transport rose by 13.4% in the case of new vehicle registrations, the National Institute of Statistics (INS) reported on Wednesday.
In the fourth quarter of 2025, new passenger cars accounted for 33.2% of total new passenger car registrations, up by 5.5 percentage points compared with the same quarter of 2024.
According to INS, at the end of the fourth quarter of 2025 around 5% of the stock of buses and minibuses consisted of electric vehicles.
In the fourth quarter of 2025, compared with the fourth quarter of 2024, new registrations of road vehicles for passenger transport recorded increases across all categories, namely buses and minibuses by 24.8%, passenger cars by 12.8% and mopeds and motorcycles by 9.2%.
As regards new registrations of new road vehicles for passenger transport, increases were recorded in all categories, namely buses and minibuses by 39.1%, passenger cars by 34.9% and mopeds and motorcycles by 6%.
With regard to new registrations of road vehicles for goods transport, increases were recorded in all categories, namely tractor units by 19.8%, trailers and semi-trailers by 17.9% and lorries, including road vehicles for special purposes, by 8.7%.
New registrations of new road vehicles for goods transport recorded increases in all categories, namely tractor units by 49.9%, trailers and semi-trailers by 14.9% and lorries, including road vehicles for special purposes, by 6.8%.
Compared with the third quarter of 2025, in the fourth quarter of 2025 new registrations of road vehicles decreased by 0.9% for passenger transport vehicles and by 1.7% for goods transport vehicles.
Road vehicles registered for use and classified according to European emission standards accounted, at the end of the fourth quarter of 2025, for 66.2% vehicles complying with Euro 4, Euro 5 or Euro 6 standards and for 9.6% vehicles complying with the Non-Euro standard.
For the passenger car category, the largest share was held by vehicles complying with the Euro 4 European standard, at 32.1%. For buses and minibuses, most vehicles, 22.9%, were classified under the Euro 6 standard, while for mopeds and motorcycles most vehicles, 21.7%, were classified as Non-Euro.
Vehicles complying with the Euro 3 European standard predominated in the lorry category, at 26.1%. Those complying with the Euro 6 standard were predominant in the tractor unit category, at 47.9%, while for the category of road vehicles for special purposes most vehicles, 21.0%, were classified as Non-Euro.
