Nicolae Ciuca at start of new school year: „We want to offer every child the right to education”

At the beginning of the new school year, Prime Minister Nicolae Ciuca wishes students success and good grades, and assures parents that education remains on the government’s priority list, according to Agerpres.

„A new school year begins today, a moment filled with emotions and hopes for both students, teachers and parents, who naturally want the best educational conditions for their children in order to enhance their qualities and ensure equal opportunities in life for everyone. The last few years have been a major challenge for the entire Romanian education, as the pandemic has forced the entire system to adjust unexpectedly fast to the digital age. Through a new approach, we are trying to correct the shortcomings that have come to light in this context regarding the Romanian education system’s ability to modernize, and the changes we considered necessary, at least at this moment, are reflected in the new education laws prepared by the government,” the Prime Minister said on Monday in his school opening message.

He goes on to note that with these laws, the authorities aim to bring Romanian education back to the top, for the sake of this highly potential young generation.

„Romanian children and youth have proven that they know how and are keen to perform, and our responsibility, as decision-makers, is to set the conditions in place for them to develop in the fields where they feel the best. Through the changes we propose for pre-university education, the educational act is supposed to take into account the student’s potential and skills, offering everyone the chance to perform best along the path they choose in life. We want to offer every child the right to education. In order for no student to be left behind, we have developed programs intended to reduce school dropout rates and support children from disadvantaged backgrounds. In order to reduce the gaps in education levels, we envisage introducing programs that help consolidate knowledge,” the Prime Minister states.

Nicolae Ciuca emphasizes that the achievement of the goals proposed by the „Educated Romania” project „requires setting the Romanian education on new principles that ensure access to quality education and capitalize on Romania’s human potential.”
