Nicolae Ciuca: Current budget deficit, related to payments made at beginning of year for December contracts

Published on

The chairman of the National Liberal Party (PNL), Nicolae Ciuca, declared, on Monday, that the current budget deficit is related to the payments made at the beginning of the year for the contracts of December 2023.

„I discussed with the prime minister and it is about the payments that were made at the beginning of the year, which were for the contracts of December 2023. A good thing in this whole matter, because here comes the data from the Ministry of Finance, are the budget collections, and it is very clear from the collected sums that it is the first time that the collection plans are fulfilled. (…) I know that it is not related, but there is, nevertheless, a compensation between the two,” said Ciuca, at the PNL headquarters, asked if he is worried about the large deficit.

He was also asked if there is a risk that the deficit will reach 7% of GDP.

„If it reaches 7%, it will be complicated to manage it. (…) It’s not just about what happens this year, because the financial-budgetary situation in 2024 impacts what will happen in the following years, that’s why all these aspects must be managed very well,” the PNL leader explained.
