Nicolae Ciuca: We want coalition with right-wing parties; PNL must win presidency

Published on

The president of the PNL (National Liberal Party), Nicolae Ciuca, on Sunday stated, at the meeting of the National Council of this political entity, that the Liberals want to form a coalition with the right-wing parties, emphasising that the PNL can and must win the presidency of Romania.

„Since 1990, Romanians have always wanted two things: prosperity and freedom. Some promised prosperity without too much freedom. Some spoke with pathos about freedom, but without being able to generate prosperity. PNL, by its tradition, understood that one cannot exist without the other, that the road to prosperity is freedom and that true freedom depends on prosperity, you cannot be prosperous if you are not free and you cannot be free if you are not prosperous,” argued Ciuca.

He mentioned that the PNL is „the only political party not affected by populism, selfishness or hypocrisy, by lies”.

„Also, we are not tainted by lies or foul propaganda, we are strong no matter how low some or the other would like us to be and it is time to show everyone this strength of the National Liberal Party, our vision, our loyalty to the country and to people, our desire to work for a Romania that develops in Europe and in the world,” added Ciuca.

PNL wants, according to him, a coalition of right-wing parties.

„Those who look at us with distrust today tell me their main reason is the collaboration with the PSD. We had no doubt that we would lose electoral points through this alliance. We would have wanted to do it with our natural right-wing ally, but its political immaturity made this alliance impossible. (…) I say it clearly: we want to form a coalition with the right-wing parties and the option that the majority of Romanians express at the polls, only that we want a predictable, mature and responsible partner we can rely on, in the current internal and international context, because this is not a child’s play. We expect them to be mature, to understand the lesson that the Romanians gave them in the last elections, and I assure them that they have a project partner in the National Liberal Party, in the long term,” Nicolae Ciuca also said.

He pointed out that the National Liberal Party is „the most powerful party of the right, the party that has thousands and thousands of activists, members, resources, power and the ability to win this battle”.

„The National Liberal Party can and must win the Presidency of Romania so that security, our development programmes, our country projects and our pro-European course are not hijacked. Romania needs a president with liberal values, in this extremely complicated geopolitical context, it needs a president loyal to the people and the country’s interests, a president who emphasises development, investments, education and health, who speaks not only to the Romanians in the country, but also to those in the diaspora,” Ciuca added.

The National Council of PNL validated, on Sunday, the candidacy of Nicolae Ciuca for the presidency of Romania. The general secretary of the PNL, Lucian Bode, announced that the decision was taken unanimously.
