President Nicusor Dan stated on Tuesday that the 40% percentage that AUR has in the polls reflects „much less any great love or any great option for this party”, but rather „a great distrust in the current political class for the way it has been governed in recent years in Romania”, noting that „there is also a continuous influence of Russia, which amplifies all social discontent, sometimes with false data”.

„There are some polls (that show AUR at 40% – ed.n) that I believe. They reflect, in my opinion, much less any great love or any great option for this party. They reflect a great distrust in the current political class, for the way it has been governed in recent years in Romania, things that we are obliged to correct. (…) There is also a continuous influence of Russia, which amplifies all social discontent sometimes with false data,” Nicusor Dan pointed out, on Euronews Romania, when asked about the polls that rate the Alliance for the Unity of Romanians at 40% of the electorate’s options.

He said that there is also „a technological discrepancy in online communication means”, noting that „neither Romania nor the European states are yet at the technological level on the networks that the forces of destabilization are developing”.

„We will correct this, again, within half a year, one year. So with all these facts, but the most important being the act of governing and regaining the trust of citizens, I am convinced that on this issue too, populist, isolationist parties will occupy a much smaller place in the trust of the population compared to the one they occupy today,” emphasized President Nicusor Dan.
