Nicusor Dan: Ciolacu should either revoke Sprinceana’s status or resign

Prime Minister Marcel Ciolacu should either revoke Dragos Sprinceana’s status as envoy or resign immediately, believes Bucharest Mayor Nicusor Dan.

Through Dragos Sprinceana, Prime Minister Marcel Ciolacu is conducting a foreign policy „parallel to the official lines of the Romanian state,” the mayor of Bucharest wrote on Facebook on Monday.

„Marcel Ciolacu, Prime Minister of the Government of Romania, is also conducting a foreign policy parallel to the official lines of the Romanian state through Dragos Sprinceana, the envoy appointed by the Prime Minister to the United States. This is intolerable. The statements made by Mr. Sprinceana are completely different from the official position of the Romanian state. Either Mr. Marcel Ciolacu revokes Mr. Sprinceana’s status as envoy, or he should resign immediately,” wrote the mayor of Bucharest.

Through this appointment, Marcel Ciolacu „jeopardizes the country’s credibility and the safety of Romanians,” added Nicusor Dan.

„The foreign relations duties of Romania are clearly established in the Constitution, and what Marcel Ciolacu has done through this appointment is a major discrediting of Romania and puts the country’s credibility and the safety of Romanians at risk. This must stop now,” Dan also wrote.
