President Nicusor Dan sent a message of condolence on Wednesday following the death of Mihai Leu, emphasising that the former world boxing champion will be remembered as a true legend and a symbol of dignity in both sport and life.

„I learned with deep sadness the news of Mihai Leu’s passing. Romania has lost not only an exceptional champion with an impressive sports record, but also a man of integrity who inspired through courage, passion and decency. His public presence was always synonymous with uprightness and respect for genuine values. He will remain in our memory as a true legend and a reference point for what dignity means in sport and in life. I extend my sincere condolences to his family and all those close to him,” Nicusor Dan wrote on platform X.

Former world boxing champion Mihai Leu passed away on Tuesday evening at the age of 57. He had been in critical condition for over a week in the Intensive Care Unit at Fundeni Clinical Institute.
