President Nicușor Dan said on Friday that the possibility of naming PSD leader Sorin Grindeanu as prime minister is a scenario that, at this point, does not seem likely.
“It’s a possibility, yes. It’s a possibility that at this moment does not seem likely. The parliamentary majority — that’s a possibility, of course. (…) It’s a possibility,” Nicușor Dan said at a press conference.
He was also asked about renominating Ilie Bolojan to head the executive: “I won’t give specific answers, only general ones, and the general answer is that I would not want to appoint a government that would create another crisis.”
“Let’s listen to all the parties, with each of their conditions, and, again, the fundamental question for each of them is what the majority should be, regardless of the composition of the Government, full correspondence with parliamentary support, minority, technocratic, what is the parliamentary majority that supports this Government? And that is a fairly difficult question at the moment, but it is the responsibility of each party to answer it, because we all have a responsibility to govern this country and, in relation to that responsibility, each of us must speak. So responses of the type ‘I want that’ must take parliamentary reality into account,” the president added.
He said there are many options and scenarios for forming the Government.
“For each of them, the fundamental question is: is there parliamentary majority support? Because if there is no parliamentary majority supporting a new Government, we will very, very quickly have tension between the Government and Parliament. The fundamental question is: what is the parliamentary majority that supports the Government?” Nicușor Dan stressed.
President Nicușor Dan will hold consultations with the parliamentary parties on Monday at Cotroceni Palace regarding the formation of a new Government.
