The transition to a greener economy must be carried out in a realistic manner that protects both the environment and the economy, stated, on Monday, President Nicușor Dan, who participated in a videoconference discussion with the leaders of European countries in the “Friends of Competitiveness” group, according to Agerpres.
The purpose of the discussion was to coordinate ahead of next week’s European Council summer summit in Brussels, the head of state wrote on Facebook.
‘The transition to a greener economy must be carried out in a realistic manner that protects both the environment and the economy. It is important to reduce carbon emissions, but without placing excessive pressure on companies and energy prices. Romania has significant energy resources, including natural gas and nuclear energy, which can contribute to the energy security of the country and of Europe. There is also a need for faster investments in European energy infrastructure so that energy can flow more efficiently between member states,” he explained.
Nicușor Dan emphasized that the common goal of the countries participating in the discussion is a well-integrated single market, the revitalization of European industries, and ensuring the EU’s strategic autonomy.
‘We want a strong and competitive European Union that creates prosperity for its citizens. A prosperous Union means a prosperous Romania,’ the president emphasized.
