Non-resident tourists arriving in Romania spend on average 3,037 RON/person in Q1

Non-resident tourists staying in collective tourist accommodation units in Romania spent, on average, 3,037.7 RON/person in the first quarter of this year, according to data from the National Institute of Statistics (INS), published Wednesday.

Professional and business travel was the main reason for the stay ofThe total number of non-resident tourists staying in tourist accommodation units in the period under review stood at 378,800, with their expenditure totalling 1.150 billion RON. Professional and business travel was the main reason for the stay of 58.9% of the non-resident visitors having arrived in Romania in the first quarter of this year, with their expenses making up 60.8% of the total expenses. The main share was spent on accommodation (48.9%), followed by spending in restaurants and bars (18.5%) and shopping (14.8%).

According to official statistics, travel for a particular purpose was the next reason for the stay of 41.1% of the non-resident visitors, with their expenses making up 39.2% of total expenses. They spent most on accommodation (43.1%), followed by shopping (15.8%) and restaurants and bars (14.7%).

In the first three months of 2024, of all non-residents arriving in our country, 38.4% organised their stay themselves, 35.9% opted for a travel agency, 16.6% chose other ways of organising their trip (such as trade union), while 9.1% organised their trip both on their own and through a tourist agency.

The plane was the main means of transport used by 79.5% of non-resident visitors having arrived in Romania, while 15.2% used their own cars, 4.7% used coaches and buses, 0.5% used trains and 0.1% arrived by other means of transport (rented cars, motorbikes, etc.).
