Number of tourist accommodation structures increases 6.6% in July 2024 (statistics)

The number of tourist accommodation structures increased 6.6% in July 2024, compared to the same period last year, to 13,538 structures, while the number of accommodation places grew 3.8%, to 449,928, according to data the National Institute of Statistics (INS) published on Thursday.

As of July 31, 2024, the most popular tourist accommodation structures were: apartments and rooms for rent – 4,411 (up 22.8% from the end of July 2023), with 76,878 places (plus 22.2%); agritourism guesthouses (plus 2.3%), with 59,980 places (plus 3.3%); hotels – 1,638 (plus 0.6%), with 206,503 places (+0.5%); tourist guesthouses – 1,574 (minus 4.1%), with 33,000 places (minus 2.7%).

According to an INS release, of the total number of hotels, most hotels were in the 3-star category (54.7% of total hotels), followed by the 4-star category (26.9%) and 2-star category (13.8%). 5-star hotels numbered 49 establishments (5 more than on July 31, 2023).

As of July 31, 2024, there were 87 tourist reception structures with accommodation functions unclassified by stars (compared to 141 as of the same date last year), most of them being camps for pupils and pre-school children (47.1% of the total in 2024), tourist cottages (13.8%), tourist cabins, apartments and rooms for rent (each with 8%), camping sites (6.9%), hostels (4.6%).

The top three counties, ranked according to the total number of existing tourist accommodation structures (including apartments and rooms for rent), were Constanta (1,630 accommodation structures), Brasov (1,332 accommodation structures) and Suceava (831 accommodation structures).

Constanta County accounted for the largest share (26.1%) in the total number of existing rooms in tourist accommodation structures (excluding rooms in cabins), followed by Brasov county (7.8%) and Bucharest municipality (6.6%). Of the total number of existing tourist accommodation places, Constanta County accounted for 26.3%, Brasov County for 7.9%, followed by Bucharest municipality with 6%.

Out of a total of 205,700 rooms in tourist establishments with accommodation functions on July 31, 2024 (excluding rooms in cabins), 102,600 (49.9%) were in hotels.

By tourist areas, out of the total number of places (449,928), 113,200 were in seaside resorts (excluding Constanta city), 103,300 were in Bucharest and the county seat cities (excluding Tulcea), 96,300 in other localities and tourist routes, 86,200 in mountain resorts, 40,400 in spa resorts and 10,500 in the Danube Delta area (including Tulcea).
