We are on the last place in the list of municipal waste recycling and we have probably become complacent in this situation, in the conditions where only 1% of the resources resulting from the 11%-13% recycled municipal waste are reintroduced into the economic circuit, he declared , on Thursday, in a specialized conference, Mihaela Frasineanu, State Counselor at the Chancellery of the Prime Minister.
„I would like to be a little realistic. We are a few years away from Romania’s accession to the European Union. 2007 was the moment when we believed (…) that all the funds coming from the European Commission, from the European Union , will be spent. Everyone started with great enthusiasm in this regard, especially if we are talking about waste management. Unfortunately, reality has shown us that not much has been done and, in the meantime, new new goals, new obligations, new pressures that we didn’t know how to face. This list of shame is really a list. It is true that we are not the only ones who have not fulfilled our goals, that we are talking about the recycling of municipal waste, about the other categories of waste and that there are other states with us that have not fulfilled them. Only that we are in the last place and we have probably become complacent in this situation, that „Ok, we’re in last place, that’s all we can do, there’s no problem”. Maybe the European Commission will continue to care for us, maybe it will give us some money to build other systems to do a separate collection, a separate transport, to do quality recycling, to reintroduce into the economic circuit the materials that are absolutely necessary,” Frasineanu mentioned.
According to the cited source, in Romania, only 1% of the resources resulting from waste recycling are reintroduced into the economic circuit.
