Over 50 Romanian firefighters operate in Greece to extinguish fire in Alexandroupolis

As many as 52 Romanian rescuers are working on Tuesday in Greece to locate and extinguish a fire that occurs near a hospital in Alexandroupolis.

„The specialised national forest fire extinguishing module, which was deployed yesterday in support of the Greek authorities and communities, arrived in Greece this morning and has already been requested at first intervention. The intervention of Romania’s module is carried out under the coordination of the Greek liaison officer, delegated in assisting and carrying out the entire mission carried out by the Romanian rescuers,” informs a press release of the General Inspectorate for Emergency Situations (IGSU) sent to AGERPRES.

On Monday, 56 firefighters, with ten extinguishing trucks, a first intervention and command vehicle and a bus left for Greece following a request for international assistance, in the context of forest fires in this country.

The intention of support from Romania was transmitted on 20 August to the Emergency Response Coordination Center of the European Commission (ERCC), through CECIS, by the Department for Emergency Situations, through the General Inspectorate for Emergency Situations, in its capacity as national contact point, IGSU specified.
