President of the National Federation of Finance Unions Sed Lex Vasile Marica said that over 9,000 employees from the Ministry of Finance and the National Agency for Fiscal Administration (ANAF) are protesting on Wednesday across most counties, dissatisfied with the cap imposed on the hazardous working conditions allowance.
„More than 9,000 employees are protesting on Wednesday in most counties, depending on how local opinion leaders have organised themselves, and the decision to continue the protests is theirs,” Sed Lex President Vasile Marica told AGERPRES.
He clarified that there is currently no specific schedule for further protests.
„We are not the ones making the decisions. People have taken to the streets. They’ve pushed us union leaders to step forward and represent them. The rest is their decision,” Vasile Marica explained.
Employees from the structures of the Ministry of Finance and ANAF also protested on Tuesday in front of their institutions, expressing dissatisfaction with the Government’s measures concerning publicly funded personnel, and have threatened to initiate a general strike.
Meanwhile, the National Union of Public Finance – SindFISC has urged its members to act in an organised manner and not to give up at the first sign of failure, saying that „this will be a prolonged and gruelling struggle”, according to a statement issued by the organisation and signed by its president, Nicolae-Liviu Toader.
The National Trade Union Bloc also announced that protests would take place on Wednesday between 9:00 and 14:00 in all water basin administrations across Romania.
The Emergency Ordinance establishing measures for public sector personnel, which sets the amount of the allowance for hazardous or dangerous working conditions at 300 lei gross per month, was published on Monday evening in the Official Journal.
The provisions of the ordinance come into effect on 1 July 2025 and apply until 31 December 2026.
