The joint plenary session, which was to take place on Tuesday and in which the suspension of President Klaus Iohannis was to be discussed, has been canceled.
The joint standing bureaus of the Senate and the Chamber of Deputies decided on Monday to cancel the joint plenary session on Tuesday, at 10:00, in which the request for the suspension of the head of state was to be discussed.
The decision of the Parliament’s leadership came after Klaus Iohannis announced his resignation.
Iohannis stated that he would leave Cotroceni Palace on February 12.
„In order to spare Romania and Romanian citizens from this crisis, from this unnecessary and negative evolution, I resign from the position of President of Romania. I will leave office the day after tomorrow, on February 12. May God bless Romania,” Klaus Iohannis said in a statement delivered at Cotroceni Palace.
