The parliamentary group of the Party of Young People (POT) in the Senate was disbanded on Monday, after two senators of this party, Liviu-Iulian Fodoca and Stefan Borţun, announced their resignation in plenary sitting.
„I would like us all to take note of the fact that, according to the Senate rules, the parliamentary group POT no longer exists today. I will not discuss anything about the motivations of our two colleagues who decided to leave the party on whose lists they entered Parliament. I wish good luck to these two colleagues, I wish good luck to the other colleagues from the Party of Young People, who, from this moment on, will work as senators without a parliamentary group, as unaffiliated senators,” said in the plenary session, POT Senator Liviu-Lucian Mazilu.
Senator Liviu-Iulian Fodoca, elected in No 33 Salaj constituency, said that he resigned because of the POT leadership, that chose „the wrong path”, claiming that the political project was gradually subordinated to the interests of another parliamentary party.
„Unfortunately, the POT leadership chose the wrong path. Gradually, the political project has been subordinated to the interests of another parliamentary party, instead of being developed autonomously, with direct accountability to the citizens. The centralisation of decisions in the hands of a small group and the arbitrary practices of appointments between counties, without criteria of competence or merit, have undermined confidence in the direction initially assumed,” Fodoca said.
Senator Stefan Bortun, elected in No. 38 Tulcea constituency, has also said that he has resigned from the party, after months of „sincere appeals and endeavours” to the party leadership, in the hope of realising a political project for society.
„The decision to resign was not taken in haste or out of personal ambitions. It is the result of months of sincere appeals and endeavours addressed to the party leadership, in the hope that we will be able to open this political project towards our society, towards the country’s professionals, towards people who are calling for real and deep reforms. I entered politics for the people, not for positions, groups or party calculations,” he said.
