Parliament’s Defence Committees approve sending 20 military personnel to support Ukraine. Final vote to follow

Published on

Parliament’s Defence Committees have approved President Nicușor Dan’s request to send 20 military personnel to support Ukraine at the operational headquarters for the Multinational Force in France and the United Kingdom, TVR reports, according to r3media.ro.

Dan Tanasă, an AUR MP, objected to the allocation of two questions to each participant.

“You are about to drag Romania into a conflict with the Russian Federation. Let’s stay here for six hours. What’s the rush? Ask 400 questions,” the AUR MP said during the committee meeting.

Bogdan Rodeanu, the committee’s USR deputy chair, hit back at the opposition MP.

Following the favourable vote in the specialist committees, the request is due to go before Parliament’s joint plenary, where the final decision will be made.

The Presidency says the military personnel will not have a combat role, but only a “coordination” role. What they will coordinate, however, we are not told.
