Parliament’s Joint Standing Bureaus pass memorandum on organisation in 2024 of Annual Session of OSCE PA

Romania’s Parliament will host in 2024 the Annual Session of the Organization for Security and Co-operation in Europe (OSCE) Parliamentary Assembly (PA), according to Agerpres.

According to a memorandum passed on Friday by the Joint Standing Bureaus of the Senate and the Chamber of Deputies, the Annual Session of the OSCE PA will take place at the Palace of Parliament between 28 June and 3 July. The plenary works will unfold between 29 June and 3 July 2024, with 28 June 2024 being reserved for the registration of participants and some relevant preliminary meetings.

The Joint Standing bureaus examined and passed, in successive stages, the organization in Bucharest of the Annual Session of the OSCE PA, initially stipulated in 2021 and postponed in the the epidemiological context generated by the COVID-19 pandemic, which determined the cancellation of international meetings with physical presence, the memorandum brings to mind.

The annual sessions are attended by delegations from the 57 OSCE participating states and from the organization’s 11 partners for cooperation, representatives, delegations on behalf of official observers of the OSCE PA and special guests. To them also are added are the staff associated to the delegations, as well as the permanent and temporary staff of the International Secretariat of the OSCE PA, accompanying persons, external collaborators and staff from the host country. The number of foreign participants is approximately 750 people, the document mentions.

In order to prepare the event, the OSCE PA Chairman will pay a visit to Romania, this year or in the beginning of 2024, in view of signing the agreement between Romania’s Parliament and the OSCE PA regarding the 31st Annual Session of the OSCE PA, a document that presents in detail the organizational activities and the distribution of responsibilities between the two sides.
