Pensioners with disabilities will participate in a protest organised by the Federation of the National Council of Disability in Romania on Monday in Victoriei Square, between 10:00 and 14:00, being dissatisfied with the „decrease in pensions” by percentages „between 40 and 80%.”
„People from all over the country have announced [that will participate]. I mention that those protesting are people with disabilities, people with serious illnesses, with chronic diseases, immobilised people who are at risk from a health point of view. Therefore, we cannot expect a massive presence. But even one person if forced to take to the streets and protest shows a big problem – people with disabilities who have worked under conditions of disability and who have fulfilled the contributory contribution stage provided by law are now facing the annulment of the recognition of this right in Law 360, and the recalculated pensions of these people are reduced by between 40% and 80%,” Daniela Tontsch, president of the National Council for Disability in Romania, told AGERPRES.
According to her, pensioners with disabilities are being „amputated of a right,” as the pension is „a property right.”
In his opinion the Government is „incoherent” in what it does and what it communicates.
The representatives of the council believe that the new legislative changes in the Law no. 360/2023 „nullify the recognition” of a reduced contributory contribution period for people with disabilities.
„This law introduces a calculation formula that is based on the application of a uniform contribution period of 25 years, without taking into account the reduced periods previously recognised for people with severe and accentuated disabilities, which produces a significant decrease in the pensions of these people. Equally serious is that people with disabilities who will retire under Law 360/2023 and will benefit from the reduced contribution period, will have pensions lower than the social allowance of 1,200 lei,” reads a press release.
