Perfumes have fascinated people since ancient times. Floral or sweet, fruity or fresh, they are part of our daily lives and true accessories that complement an outfit, both during the day and evening, for any occasion. Perfume has a history dating back thousands of years, and the first evidence of its existence dates back to ancient Egypt.

In this regard, Mrs. May Saied, the wife of H.E. Mr. Moayad Fathallah Mohamed Eldalie, Ambassador of the Arab Republic of Egypt to Romania, organized a meeting on cosmetics and perfumes at the ambassador’s residence in Bucharest.

„We, the Spouses of Heads of Missions in Bucharest (SPOHOM), have a monthly gathering at the Ambassador’s residence, and we chose to bring up the theme of perfumes in February. I was thinking about what to do, I was overwhelmed with ideas, and then I met someone who was involved in perfumes and we talked, and I felt that it would be interesting for the ladies, so I started to look into Egyptian civilization about perfumes and cosmetics,” said May Saied, the wife of H.E. Moayad Fathallah Mohamed Eldalie, the Ambassador of the Arab Republic of Egypt to Romania, in a statement to newsbucuresti.ro.

Conceived as a cultural diplomacy project at the initiative of the Spouses of Heads of Missions (SPOHOM) community in Bucharest, the event aimed to create a space for interaction and discussions about beauty, with a video clip about perfumes and cosmetics in ancient Egypt, followed by a presentation about perfumes, delivered by Izabela Corina Juncu, the President of the Association of Perfumes and Aromatherapies in Romania.

After the discussion about perfumes, the spouses of the invited heads of mission tested the perfumes proposed by Izabela Corina Juncu.

The event ended with a brunch, and the surprise from the host was a corner with desserts, with the theme focused on beauty and cosmetics.

It is said that the first perfume bottle was invented in Egypt. Therefore, it is no wonder that tourists who visit the country choose to take home a perfume as a souvenir.

According to Mrs. May Saied, perfumes in Egypt are oil-based and sold in smaller bottles. These perfumes last longer over time.

„In Egypt, we don’t have a special type of perfume like in ancient Egypt, but we do have some perfumes that are sold in tourist areas and are oil-based. They are sold in small bottles and are oily, which makes them different,” she added.

When asked about her favorite perfume, Ms. May Saied stated that she likes to experiment and try different scents: „I like different perfumes. I change all the time. I recently bought a new perfume from Timisoara airport with Arabic aromas and it’s something new. I like to try all types to see which one suits me.”
