PM Bolojan assures Suceava, Neamt people affected by flash floods of gov’t support

Prime Minister Ilie Bolojan on Tuesday sent a message of compassion to the families who had victims following the latest storm and floods in Suceava County, assuring the people of the countries of Suceava and Neamt affected by floods, of the Government’s full support.

„It is appropriate to send a message of compassion to the families who had victims in Suceava County in the storm that occurred and in the floods produced as a result of the storm. And also to assure all citizens who are affected by floods in the two counties – Neamt and Suceava – of the support of the Romanian Government. From the first moment when this weather phenomenon appeared and until today and beyond, the Emergency Management Inspectorate (ISU) teams, all the forces we have available in the area of Moldavia, the Ministry of Interior, together with the county services, with the local authorities, intervene,” Bolojan told a news conference at the Government House.

He added that the area is currently being checked, and communication routes are being cleaned.

„In the coming days, after the assessments of these damages will be made, as we have done on other occasions, we will provide the necessary financial support, both for the restoration of infrastructure, and also for those who had houses affected or suffered. In these hours, Mr Raed Arafat is on his way to the two counties, to verify at the scene the intervention of our colleagues and to provide all the necessary support so that the effects of these floods are diminished as quickly as possible,” said Bolojan.

Over 470 households in the counties of Neamt and Suceava have been affected lately by the floods in the area, with 205 people being rescued from the homes affected by the floods, the IGSU announced on Monday. In the town of Brosteni – Neagra (Suceava), three people (a man and two women) were caught by the flood, being extracted and declared dead. Also, 205 people were rescued from homes affected by the floods, 120 by air and 85 by land.
