Prime Minister Ilie Bolojan announced on Wednesday that among the measures to reduce the deficit are the re-establishment of VAT at two rates, 11% and 21%, and the increase in excise duties on alcoholic beverages and fuels.
„We will re-establish VAT at two rates, today we have three VAT rates. The 11% rate and the 21% rate will remain. Medicines, food, public services, water and sewage, water for irrigation, books, firewood, thermal energy will remain at the reduced rate. We propose that the HORECA industry remain at this level. (…) Another measure is to increase excise duties by 10% for alcoholic beverages, for fuels. The excise duty on cigarettes will also increase”, Bolojan told a press conference at Victoria Palace.
