PM Ciolacu announces 10pct salary increase for low income categories, eyeglasses refunds of up to 500 lei

Prime Minister Marcel Ciolacu said on Tuesday that a normative act has been made transparent, which provides for salary increases of 10%, in two tranches, for categories with very low incomes, but also for eyeglasses refunds, up to 500 Ron.

„There is a European requirement with the eyeglasses allowances up to 500 Ron; and the rest we are talking about increases of 5% and 5% for the categories that have not received them, for those with very low incomes,” the PM told a press conference.

Ciolacu also said that the Government cannot afford higher salary increases for museum employees or librarians.

„At the moment, from what I have established with the Finance minister, the Romanian Government can afford this much. It (the ordinance, ed. n.) is put in transparency. But I tell you that the Romanian Government – what the Ministry of Finance has told me – is that Romania can afford this budget effort at the moment. And I believe that since the beginning of the year, this approach has been fair and balanced,” added the head of Government.
