Prime Minister Marcel Ciolacu reiterated on Thursday that he is interested in the law being correctly applied in the case involving Calin Georgescu.
He stressed that, in this context, the „reaction of the financial markets after yesterday” is also relevant.
„Regarding the most discussed subject at the moment, I want to be very clear: I am only interested in the law being applied correctly. It is essential that the authorities communicate everything important and anything that can be made public from the investigation. For me, however, the reaction of the financial markets after yesterday is also relevant. The state’s borrowing costs have decreased, the Stock Exchange has risen, and the exchange rate remains stable,” said Ciolacu at the beginning of the Government meeting.
Calin Georgescu, a former presidential candidate, was placed under judicial control on Wednesday by prosecutors from the General Prosecutor’s Office for 60 days. He faces several restrictions, including not leaving the country without judicial approval and being prohibited from posting content with fascist, legionary, anti-Semitic, racist, or xenophobic character on social media.
Georgescu is being investigated for committing six offenses: instigating actions against the constitutional order, attempted; communicating false information; repeated false declarations; initiating or forming a fascist, racist, or xenophobic organisation, joining or supporting such a group in any form; publicly promoting the cult of individuals convicted of committing crimes of genocide against humanity and war crimes; and promoting, in public, fascist, legionary, racist, or xenophobic ideas, concepts, or doctrines; initiating or forming an anti-Semitic organisation, joining or supporting such an organisation in any form.
